George Byng
2nd Earl of Strafford
The Rt Hon. George Byng PC is a former Whig member of parliament for Chatham. He most recently represented the constituency between August 1837 and July 1852.
In April 1853, he entered the House of Lords under a writ of acceleration as Baron Strafford and sat as a Whig peer. He subsequently inherited the title of Earl of Strafford in June 1860. He remained in the House of Lords until October 1886.
Lord Strafford has stood in five elections in Medway. He has been elected on four occasions.
