Kent Police and Crime Commissioner

An election was held in Kent on 15 November 2012 to elect a police and crime commissioner for the county.
It was the first election to take place after the police and crime commissioner role was established. An independent candidate won after the second round of voting.
Ann Barnes was elected as the police and crime commissioner for Kent.

Under the alternative vote electoral system, a candidate needs to win more than 50% of the votes to be elected. As no candidate received more than 50% of the votes in the first round, the two highest polling candidates went through to a second round. The second preferences of the eliminated candidates, where applicable, were added to the two remaining candidates' votes.
