Medway Council Election
5 May 2011
A full election to Medway council was held on 5 May 2011.
A total of 198 candidates stood for seven parties, while a further 13 candidates stood as independents.
For the second election in a row, the Conservatives saw the size of their group increase, with a net gain of one seat. The party retained overall control of the council with 35 councillors.
Labour gained three seats, retaining their status as the official opposition on the council with 15 councillors.
The Liberal Democrats lost five seats. However, they remained the third largest party on the council with three councillors.
Two independent councillors were elected on a joint ticket in a single ward, forming a formal independent group on the council.
