Council: Increase Number of Votes Recorded (Amendment)

Motion

Councillor Sutton, supported by Councillor Sheila Kearney, proposed the following motion:

That this council recognises

  • the importance of having clear records of votes cast by councillors.

That this council agrees

  • Rule 11.4 of this council is changed and the following added:
    votes on called-in items, amendments and motions at meetings of overview and scrutiny committees are always recorded.

Amendment

The leader, Councillor Rodney Chambers, supported by the portfolio holder for finance, Councillor Jarrett, proposed an amendment as follows:

To delete the existing motion and replace with:

That this council recognises

  • The importance of having clear records of votes cast by councillors and that there is already provision within council rule 11.5 for any individual member to request how they voted to be recorded in the minutes.

That this council agrees

  • No change to council rule 11.4 in the light of the provision in council rule 11.5.

On being put to the vote, the amendment was carried and became the substantive motion.
