Declare Land at Compass Close Surplus (Amendment)
4 November 2004

Motion

Members considered a report recommending that the council upholds its previous decision to declare land at Compass Close, Rochester, surplus following cabinet's consideration of the matter on 19 October 2004.

Councillor Jarrett, portfolio holder for finance, proposed, supported by the leader, Councillor Rodney Chambers, that:

The previous council decision to declare land at Compass Close, Rochester surplus, as edged black on the attached plan, be upheld and the land disposed of.

Amendment

Councillor Murray proposed an amendment, supported by Councillor Bowler that:

  1. The land shown edged in black on the attached plan be retained by Medway council. The council believes that the land should be confirmed in the local plan as public open space and enhanced to provide a biodiversity learning area and leisure facility for people in Medway to enjoy.
  2. The previous decision to declare numbers 98 and 100 The Tideway, Rochester surplus to requirements be reconsidered and the properties be offered to other departments of Medway council.

On being put to the vote, the amendment was lost.
