Proposed Bill: Enforcement Issues
6 November 2003

Motion

Members considered a report seeking support for the promotion of a private act of parliament, which, if given royal assent would give the council additional powers to deal with pedlars and illegal street trading.

In the absence of the portfolio holder for community safety, the portfolio holder for finance, Councillor Jarrett supported by the leader Councillor Rodney Chambers proposed the recommendations as set out in paragraphs 7.1 and 7.2 of the report.

Amendment

Councillor Godwin, supported by Councillor Price, proposed an amendment to add the following to paragraph 7.1 of the substantive motion:

That by the council meeting on January 15 2004 officers provide:

  • additional information on the resource implications of enforcement;
  • assurances that full consultation has taken place;
  • further information on the provisions of the bill; and
  • details of what contact there has been with our local MPs.

The portfolio holder for finance, Councillor Jarrett, accepted the inclusion of this proposed amendment into his substantive motion.

On being put to the vote, the motion was carried.
