Ukip Councillors
There are currently no Ukip councillors on Medway council. However, since 1998 there have been eight individuals who have sat as Ukip councillors but who are no longer members of the council.
Ukip is a national political party who were founded in 1993 and saw their biggest electoral success in the mid-2010s.
Ukip were only represented on Medway council between 2014 and 2019. Four of their members were elected as Conservative party councillors in 2011, although one of them resigned their seat on the council to fight a by-election in 2014 before taking his seat as a Ukip councillor.
Four Ukip councillors were elected in 2015. Of those, one resigned from the party to sit as an independent councillor one week after taking his seat, one resigned from the council in September 2016 and one resigned from the party to sit as an independent councillor in October 2018. Their remaining councillor lost his seat in 2019.
